EAGLE LAKE
Deborah Epstein
Using photopolymer plates and a process developed by Cone Editions, photogravure intaglio has become a nontoxic continuous tone delight. In this series, photogravure intaglio is combined with screenprinting. The Eagle Lake series studies a grove of red pines at Acadia National Park which have died from an infestation of an invasive insect. The photogravures capture the beauty of the spare canopy against the sky while the screenprint emphasizes the enormously tall straight trunks.
